Well, it’s finally come – they day they start moving dirt. That day is TODAY. When I came into the office this morning Bruchey Brothers (our construction firm) had some men and equipment preparing for the more extensive site work that will follow. It was pretty exciting to see even this beginning stage of work underway; and just in time for Sunday’s groundbreaking ceremony!

The excitement I’m feeling today isn’t just about the building. It’s about opportunity, mission, and vision. I can’t help but be excited about the opportunities that will open up before us to host special worship events, hold conferences, train teachers and leaders, gather youth together, and many other things. It’s a reminder that the sanctuary is not just about us, but about the Kingdom of God reaching further into our community and deeper into people’s hearts.

That leads directly into our mission. This is a church that believes it is being called to make disciples. “Love God; Love others; Make disciples” is more than just a slogan – it’s our reason for being. We are being blessed with a sanctuary so that we can be a blessing to others. And we are being called to be a specific kind of blessing: not a passive blessing (here we are, come and get it!), but an active blessing (let me show you what Jesus has for you!). Instead of saying “come and see,” we are saying “let’s get going.”

Our vision is all about our future. The place that God is taking us next is the place we want to be! What that looks like and how we will get there is always going to be in process (at least a bit). But make no mistake – if we follow God’s vision we will get where God wants us to be going.
